Description

The gold standard in advanced wound care. Complete hospital bed system with Fluid Immersion Simulation therapy, UltraCare XT bed frame, laminate panels, assist handles, and AutoVector control unit. Prevents and heals pressure injuries through Stage IV.

The DolphinCare Integrated Bed System is the most advanced wound care bed available for home use. It combines the Dolphin Fluid Immersion Simulation mattress -- originally developed by the U.S. Navy -- with the UltraCare XT hospital bed frame, laminate panels, assist handles, and the AutoVector control unit in a single, fully configured system.

The Dolphin mattress simulates the effect of floating on water. It automatically measures each patient's weight, surface area, and position, then continuously adjusts immersion depth to maintain near-normal blood flow across every contact point. The result is minimal tissue deformation and optimal conditions for wound healing through Stage IV pressure injuries, post-operative flaps, and skin grafts.

The UltraCare XT frame provides advanced positioning including Comfort Chair functionality, Gravity-Assist repositioning, Auto-Transfer height adjustment, and a low height of 7 inches for fall prevention. UltraLock casters at head and foot, AdvanceCare staff controls built into the panels, and two deluxe assist handles with built-in hand control holders complete the system.

Everything is preconfigured. One delivery. One setup. One system.

KEY FEATURES

Fluid Immersion Simulation Simulates floating on water. Automatically adjusts to each patient's body, eliminating pressure points and maintaining near-normal blood flow across all skin surfaces.

Heals Through Stage IV Wounds Clinically proven for prevention and healing of pressure injuries through Stage IV, post-operative flaps, skin grafts, and spinal cord injury patients cleared by a physician.

Automatic Patient Profiling The AutoVector control unit continuously measures weight, surface area, and repositioning to create an individualized immersion profile. No manual adjustment needed.

12-Hour Battery Backup Continues active therapy during power outages or patient transport. No interruption in care.

How the Dolphin Works

Most hospital bed mattresses -- even air mattresses -- work by distributing pressure. The Dolphin works differently. It simulates immersion in a fluid medium, creating a near-weightless environment where the body is supported in three dimensions rather than just from below.

When the patient lies on the Dolphin, the AutoVector control unit measures their weight and the surface area of contact. The proprietary Archimedes Linker algorithm calculates the exact air density needed in each zone of the mattress to simulate buoyancy. As the patient moves or is repositioned, the system continuously recalculates and adjusts.

The result: blood flow remains near normal across all skin surfaces. Tissue deformation is minimized. Shear forces are virtually eliminated. For a patient with a Stage IV pressure wound, this is the difference between a surface that manages pressure and a surface that actively promotes healing.

The system requires no input from the caregiver beyond pressing the power button. It adjusts automatically, continuously, and silently.

Clinical Indications

The DolphinCare system is clinically indicated for:

  • Prevention and healing of pressure injuries through Stage IV
  • Post-operative flap and graft recovery
  • Patients whose medical condition precludes turning and repositioning
  • Patients where repositioning is contraindicated due to risk of further compromise
  • Spinal cord injury patients (once acute injury is stabilized and cleared by physician)
  • Patients at high risk for skin breakdown due to prolonged immobility

This is an advanced therapy system. We recommend consulting with your wound care team or physician to confirm the DolphinCare is the right solution for your situation. Call us and we can discuss your clinical needs.

Who is this For?

This system is right for you if:

  • Your loved one has a Stage III or IV pressure injury that is not healing on a standard mattress
  • A wound care specialist has recommended fluid immersion or advanced therapy surface
  • The patient has had flap surgery or skin grafts and needs optimal healing conditions
  • The patient cannot be turned or repositioned safely and needs a surface that compensates
  • You need a complete bed system with the most advanced wound care technology available for home use
  • You want everything in one system -- bed frame, therapeutic mattress, control unit, panels, and rails

This may not be the right fit if:

  • The patient does not have active wounds or high risk for pressure injuries (see our WeCare Complete Home Hospital Bed System at $3,495 or RC1000 Bariatric Bed System at $12,495)
  • You already own a hospital bed frame and only need the Dolphin mattress (see our Dolphin FIS Mattress System)
  • The patient weighs over 500 lbs (the Dolphin FIS mattress-only system is available in a 48" bariatric configuration rated to 1000 lbs -- call us)
  • You need a bariatric-width bed frame (the DolphinCare integrated system is 35" standard or 42" wide -- call us to discuss options)
Delivery and Setup

The DolphinCare system ships from the Joerns warehouse to the nearest Joerns Service Center. A trained Joerns technician will coordinate directly with you to schedule delivery, in-home assembly, system setup, and training on use and care.

Contact us for delivery and setup details. Joerns Healthcare coordinates professional installation for DolphinCare systems — we will confirm the process when you order.

Estimated delivery: Timeframe confirmed when you place your order. Allow additional time for service center scheduling.

Also Available in 42" Width

The DolphinCare Integrated Bed System is also available in a 42" UltraWide configuration at the same price. The wider surface reduces fall risk by up to 37% compared to 35" beds and provides additional comfort for larger patients. Call us to discuss which width is right for your situation.

FAQ

What makes the Dolphin different from a low air loss mattress? A low air loss mattress circulates air through the surface to manage moisture and redistribute pressure. The Dolphin goes further -- it simulates immersion in a fluid medium using a computerized system that continuously measures and adjusts to each patient's body. The Dolphin actively monitors blood flow using Laser Doppler Flowmetry technology and adjusts in real time. Low air loss manages pressure. The Dolphin optimizes healing.

Is this approved for home use? Yes. The DolphinCare system was specifically designed for home care as well as facility use. It runs on a standard 110V outlet, has a 12-hour battery backup for power outages, and includes professional in-home setup and training from a Joerns technician.

How loud is it? The system produces a soft fluttering sound as it continuously adjusts to the patient's position. It is significantly quieter than most alternating pressure mattresses. Patients and caregivers consistently report it does not disrupt sleep.

Does the caregiver need to adjust anything? The system is fully automatic. Once powered on, it continuously measures and adjusts without caregiver input. The caregiver can use the Comfort Adjust buttons to change firmness if the patient requests it, and the Auto Firm button to firm up the surface for transfers.

What is Comfort Chair positioning? The bed frame raises the head and bends the knees to simulate sitting in a chair. This allows the patient to sit upright for eating, reading, or socializing without transferring out of bed. It improves comfort, circulation, and patient dignity.

What is the battery backup for? If the power goes out, the 12-hour battery continues active therapy without interruption. The patient remains fully supported. The battery also allows the system to operate during patient transport within the home.

What is the warranty? 2 years on advanced support surfaces and electromechanical components (compressors, valves, circuit boards, hoses, couplers) under normal use. Damage from improper use is not covered.

Who sets it up? A trained Joerns Healthcare technician delivers the system, assembles it in your home, configures the electronics, and trains you and your caregiver on how to use it. This is included in the price.

Can I return it? This is a custom-configured system. Once production begins, the order cannot be cancelled. The system is non-returnable once delivered. Please confirm all specifications and clinical needs with us before completing your order.
